Important Terms and Concepts--Chapter 6: The Slide to Subjectivism



anthropocentrism-- in Taylor's usage, this term refers to an exclusive focus on human goals and ends which abolishes horizons of significance.

Nietzschean challenge -- What Friedrich Nietzsche called the "transvaluation of all values" is a critique of the received values and morality of society and tradition.

expressivism -- revelation (or "insight") comes through expression or by "fresh articulation." For Taylor, this belief arises from the natural connection between self-discovery and artistic creation.

mimesis -- used in art, this term refers to the imitation of reality.
