A Guide Developed by Students, Volunteers, and Faculty in

Baylor Community Care & The Agape Clinic

A Program of the Louise Herrington School of Nursing at Baylor University &

Grace United Methodist Church - Dallas, Texas

Last update: 2/2005

Contents: Contents are grouped first under problem or topic (e.g., Children & Adolescent Services, Health Services for Children, Health Services for Women, etc.) and second, alphabetically by agency/organization (e.g., Grace United Methodist Church, Parkland, WIC Program, etc.) This is for ease of use in different circumstances - the same information is presented in each manner. Note that page numbers are not given in the Internet version of the Resources Guide because different browsers and operating systems give different "looks," hence we are unable to produce a guide that always has the same pagination regardless of browser/OS. Volunteers Needed! Also, check out the (very much in progress) East Dallas Restaurants page.

Who is eligible? TexCare Partnership is now enrolling children ages 18 and under whose family incomes are up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level. This would mean, for example, that a family of four earning up to $34,100 a year, or $2,842 a month, may now be eligible for coverage. What is the TexCare Partnership? TexCare Partnership offers three separate children's health insurance programs. All three programs provide health insurance for children at a price that fits the budgets of Texas families. Rates are flexible and are based on the number of people in your family and your family's income and expenses. Children do not have to be US citizens to apply. How do I apply? To apply for health coverage for your child, call 1-800-647-6558. You may apply by telephone or have an application mailed to you. You will need to provide proof of income, which may be one of the following: pay check stubs for the last two months, most recent federal income tax forms, other proof of self- employment, or a letter from your employer stating your income. This information taken from the Children's Defence Fund web site: http://www.childrensdefense.org/ The Texas CHIP web site is www.texcarepartnership.com

CMC utilizes CHIP (Child Health Insurance Program) and other programs for coverage of patients who have difficulty paying. We get consistent reports that patients and families are treated with kindness.
CHIP: Children's Health Insurance Program (Currently only at Children's Medical Center)

About the Guide

Service providers are arranged according to services categories as listed in Contents and alphabetically. Thus there are sections on pediatrics, women's health, and other specific categories (see Table of Contents) and the same information is also presented in alphabetical order. Some organizations provide an array of services and are listed separately as well as under specific categories. Examples are the East Dallas Health Center and Parkland. Services for people who are homeless also are listed separately.
Human service providers sometimes change services or requirements to receive services. Whenever possible call the provider to be sure that services are still available. Please let us know if you learn of changes in an agency, find a mistake in these materials, or learn of new community services. Guides such as this are hard to maintain and we need all the help we can get! Contact Charles Kemp at:
